Catherine Andrew Art

New Zealand artist, from Upper Hutt, Catherine Andrew, started painting in acrylics and oils in 2014. With a professional background in graphic design, she also grew up surrounded by her mother's paintings and was interested in drawing and painting at an early age.
Her mother Elizabeth Leatherbarrow (who sadly passed away in 2019) worked in oils, watercolour and pastel and she was a member of PANZ (Pastel Artists of New Zealand) and also Watercolour New Zealand. She had been exhibiting regularly in the Wellington area for over 30 years.
Catherine was awarded first prize for Best Natural Fauna in the Paraparaumu Rotary Art Show Competition in 2016 for her 'Auckland Zoo Tiger' painting and a Merit in 2017 in the Portraiture/People section for 'Baby Cassie'.
Animals, native birds and flower studies are her favourite subjects. Her paintings display her love of detail, colour and the way light affects a subject. She also enjoys painting abstracts, landscapes and the challenge of portrait painting.
Mainly painting from photographs, she is also a keen photographer and makes her own jewellery which she sells online and at various craft stalls.
